COVID-19/Coronavirus and West Hills Little League - This post is one of the toughest to send out but we must follow the City of Santee guidelines since our permits are with them for use of the fields. ALL sports fields, including school practice fields and the Sportsplex are closed for 10 days. What does this mean for WHLL? A few things:
1) After those 10 days (March 23rd) - the City of Santee will review the situation and decide to hopefully reopen our field (including batting cages) or worst case, extend the closure.
2) There is also a State of California order that also came out today to postpone all gatherings of groups of more than 250 people. Our fields get really busy on Saturday so we may have to look at adjusting schedules to stay below this limit. But again, it's a mute point right now because the City of Santee has closed all sports fields in the city. We will monitor this and adjust as needed when the fields open and if the State order is still in place.
3) District 41 had a meeting tonight and this was the hot topic as expected. Little League's recommendation of suspending play and activities until April 6th was highly debated. I can assure you that all leagues want the kids to play. What we do know is that IF the school's get shut down, ALL LEAGUES will follow suit and temporary shut down and mirror the school closures (if that happens). District 41 will be posting later tonight the official outcome but our City mandate is longer than the agreed upon "pause". This pause will include NO GAMES & NO PRACTICES (even offsite cages). If there are offsite functions, they will not and are not league approved or sponsored.
Again, our biggest obstacle right now is our fields being closed. Thankfully it looks like we have bad weather next week which would have shut us down anyway. As soon as we hear more, we will post it here and on our website.
